The Hospitality Star Excellence Program will be offering students the opportunity to hone their creativity and build lifelong skills that set them up to complete nationally recognised certificates in the Hospitality industry and broaden their career opportunities post-graduation.
In the senior schooling phase, students will be able to complete either or both of the following qualifications on premises in our industry standard commercial kitchen, restaurant and bar.

In both the junior and senior grades, the main objective of the program is to expose students to real world experiences that build confidence and resilience in our students. Some excursions and workshops on offer this year include (some activities will incur a cost however, ample warning will be provided in this event).
The program offers challenging and engaging lessons relevant to the Hospitality and Tourism sector. The ultimate goal being our students entering the Hospitality sector with confidence and the relevant skills and knowledge underpinned by a strong, resilient work ethic. Students will be supported and encouraged to pursue their dreams of working in the Food and Tourism industry.
Hospitality Excellence back story
Each year the students' interest, career paths or passion for the Food and Tourism industry shifts, this allows the program to be incredibly flexible. We are proud partners of The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Project and also the Gateway for schools' program for the Food and Tourism sector. These partnerships are invaluable in providing our students access to workshops, experiences and training sessions. Since the implementation of the Hospitality STAR program in 2019, the students have been involved in the following events and workshops.
- Rocklea market tour
- Mercure and Pullman (5 star) behind the scenes hotel tour in Brisbane city
- High tea at the White House of Waterford- one on one session with owners
- Program fundraising at Marsden McDonald's store
- 2 night Tangalooma resort hotel stay- behind the scenes tour, dolphin feeding, Hotel manager and HR manager presentation
- Annual showcase excellence dinner- conjunction with Agribusiness. 3 course dinner for community dignitaries, special guests and leadership team
- Celebrity chef Matt Golinski “farm to fork" workshop
- Cake decorating workshop
- Indigenous cooking work "my dilly bag" with chef Dale Chapman
