On Wednesday, 6 March, a group of music students from Loganlea High School went on an excursion to the QPAC to see a performance of the Queensland symphony orchestra. The theme of the concert was “revolution” and the students got to hear a programme of music inspired by war, combat and struggle.
The highlight of the concert was a performance by the winner of the 2013 Young Performer’s Competition. The winner this year was a fifteen year old cellist, who played the first movement of a concerto by Schostokovich. We also heard performances by Tchaikovsky, Wagner and Rimsky-Korsakoff. Our students thoroughly enjoyed the concert, and for many, it was an opportunity to be immersed in both a style and performance of music which they might not have been previously exposed to. After the concert, we all enjoyed having a relaxing lunch at Southbank before heading back to school in the afternoon. Thank you to all the students who attended and for your exemplary behaviour for the entire time.
