Film, Television and New Media

Film, Television and New Media are our main sources of information and entertainment. The media industry is now one of the largest employers in many countries and its importance in all our lives will only increase as new technologies continue to develop. Knowledge of moving image media production enables self-expression as individuals and better understanding as consumers. Students therefore benefit from being equipped with the skills to understand and produce moving image media.

The subject Film, Television and New Media aims to teach students pre-production, production, post-production and critical literacy skills as they view, design and produce media texts. Across the two-year course, students study a wide variety of moving image media, the design and production processes and the industries that produce and distribute the texts. Students design and produce their own short films both individually and in small production teams.

The critical and creative skills students learn in Film, Television and New Media are useful for gaining employment in the industry, getting entry into further study and obtaining the knowledge to be informed consumers of media products.
