Sunrise Solar Eclipse 2012

Solar eclipse

On the 14th of November a sunrise partial solar eclipse can be seen in Logan.  A solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes between the Earth and the Sun and obscures at least part of the Sun. If you are lucky enough to be in Cairns you will see a total solar eclipse. In Logan the eclipse will start at 5:56am, with a maximum of 83% of the sun covered at 6:54 am and finish at 7:59 am. For most of us this is a once in a lifetime event with the next sunrise total solar eclipse occurring in 2066.

To safely observe the eclipse you will need ‘solar eclipse glasses’ as it is dangerous to look directly at the sun without eye protection. It is possible to suffer serious and permanent eye damage by looking at a solar eclipse, without solar eclipse glasses, even for a short time.
At Loganlea state high school we will be viewing the eclipse from the deck of our Trade-Training Centre. Please feel free to join us on the deck from 6:30am or enjoy the show from your own back yard. Solar eclipse glasses will be available for hire on the day for $2. Come along and enjoy one of the most spectacular events a person can observe.
