News from Humanities

It is hard to believe that another school term is almost over. Congratulations to all of our hard working students who have been persevering to achieve their very best. It has been a busy term for all but special mention goes to our Year 12 OP Pathway students who have been undertaking intensive QCS Preparation. In the last month, the students have participated in a Multiple Choice and a Writing Task workshop, followed by practice tests for both disciplines. These practice test results provide students and teachers with invaluable feedback to promote success. Well done to all of the students who participated. If you think you might be eligible for special consideration for the QCS Test, please see Miss Griffiths. All of our students are focussed and working towards the completion of end of semester assessment. However, in the lead up to these culminating tasks we have had a term of taking our Humanities lessons outdoors. Humanities students at Loganlea State High School take part in relevant and authentic learning experiences in real life contexts. Miss Symes and her Senior Geography students have been making the most of the great weather and our fantastic school campus by completing a field study by the Logan River, right here on the banks of our school. Our students are so fortunate to have access to this catchment as, aside from being advantageous to their assessment, it fosters a real life appreciation of our local geography.
The State Library of Queensland had it shelves ransacked by twenty of our Senior Modern History students last week. The students took part in authentic historical research processes as part of their most recent assessment task. Our students were proud role models for our school and everyone enjoyed the beautiful surrounds of the Library and the beautiful Brisbane River. Congratulations to the students who attended for engaging in this opportunity.
All students have upcoming assessment to finalise. On behalf of the Humanities team, I wish you all the best in your studies and we encourage you to strive to achieve your learning goals for this semester!
