News from the music department

news from the music department
The music department has been exceptionally busy over the past few weeks.

On Thursday, 16 September, the music, dance and ag departments were involved with the Marsden primary school multi-cultural festival. We performed to over 1000 eager and excited audience members.  Violet East sang a beautiful rendition of the song “The Lonely”. She was certainly a hit as she used the whole stage as well as taking her performance down to the audience level. She was followed by the junior eisteddfod dance troupe. It was wonderful to see these younger students performing at such a high standard and the audience really appreciated their efforts. We also had a stall set up, handing out enrolment and information packs to everyone who was there. After seeing the standard of the performances from Loganlea high school, many of the young kids will now hopefully want to enrol at our wonderful school and take up some of the subjects in the arts department. The Loganlea state high petting zoo was also a huge hit and the puppies were certainly very popular with young and old visitors alike. Loganlea high would like to thank the organisers for this wonderful opportunity and we look forward to participating in this event next year.

On Monday, 20 September, we competed in the 2013 Loganlea idol held at the Logan entertainment center. We were competing against eight other high schools which make up the members of ENABLE. There was so much interest in this event this year that we had to audition in order to select who was going to represent our school on the night.  Once again, Violet was representing the school by singing the Florence and the Machine song “Between Two Lungs”. Kataraina Paul and Phillip Mona also performed a vocal duet.  Although we didn’t come a place, our students did exceptionally well and it was one of the best performances I have seen them do. Well done to those two acts.  Loganlea was also given the special honour of presenting a special guest act while the judges were adding up their final tally. Tara Dance, Melanie Tree and Samantha Martin are three Year 8 students who have a huge potential to go a long way in music performance. They entertained the crowd of over 800 people with their beautiful performance including the guitar and very tight harmonies. Well done girls, and I look forward to seeing you develop your skills even further into the future.

Finally, just a reminder that Loganlea high school will be presenting their annual arts expo on the evening of the 31st October. This event showcases the wonderful work which all of our talented students in the arts department have achieved throughout 2013. You will see dancers, musicians, actors, film makers and visual artists displaying their talent. It is a Gold Coin entry and there will also be a sausage sizzle beforehand.  More information coming soon, but please set aside this date in your diaries for an evening of great fun and great entertainment.

If you are interested in discussing any of the programmes offered in the arts department at Loganlea state high school, please do not hesitate to contact us here at the school on 3451 8777.
