China Trip 2008

By Kharlina Bell, Year 10
Hey guys & girls. While you were spending your September holidays at the beach or at the shops, Archer Mallick, Brent Watson, Tahyler Rackley, Mrs Tzeng and I (Kharlina Bell) were in China. We spent 12 days over there with some students and teachers from Marsden and I loved almost every minute.
We travelled to four parts of the amazingly large country: Shanghai, Hangzhou, Beijing and Xian. We went to a lot of markets and shopping districts, but we also visited many temples, the Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, Xian School and climbed the Great Wall. The shopping was my favourite part and we all got very good at bartering. I really enjoyed the Great Wall. It is truly stunning. It’s so big, steep and breathtaking. Archer and I climbed right to the top and admired the views. The group tour also took us to such places as West Lake and Xi-Tang Watertown, where we enjoyed boat rides and scenery.
The flights were tiring. All seven of them. However, the awesome hotels made up for it. We loved all of their facilities. All our meals were catered for, ranging from soups and noodles to meat and seafood dishes. Chinese food is not really my thing but was liked by the majority of participants on the trip.
China is a very different place to Australia in many ways. I especially came to respect the Australian road rules and zebra crossings. The residents are very nice, but the shopkeepers can get pushy and boisterous.
I’d like to thank all the teachers and students of Loganlea and Marsden High Schools, in particular, Mrs. Tina Tzeng who put so much effort into making this trip memorable. Thank you all so much for a wonderful experience that I’d willingly participate in again.
Kharlina Bell, Year 10.
